"Committed to reclaiming youth through character development and academic growth"

The primary mission of the Hopevale Union Free School District is to reclaim our youth so they are better able to develop their unique learning potentials and character, using their critical thinking and creativity to foster better decision making throughout life.

We serve youth with emotional, learning and behavioral needs who have been in conflict with school, family and community. Our school norms of Respect, Safety, Responsibility and Helping are foundation values for our school environment, as are the "Circle of Courage" universal human needs for Belonging, Mastery, Independence and Generosity.

    We believe in:

  • Instructional learning that is standards-based, relevant and meaningful
  • Optimism in identifying our students' hidden talents and potentials
  • Helping our students identify their self-defeating behaviors
  • Promoting acceptance of diversity with respect to race, ethnicity, family
  • background, origin, learning style, personal preference, or emotional needs
  • Informing, educating and supporting students in making better decisions
  • Partnering with our students in creating a positive peer culture in school
  • Assisting our students in preparing and planning for transition to the workplace, their home school, post- secondary education or training, employment or to community participation
  • Promoting the development of resiliency in our students
  • Communicating, collaborating and teaming among our staff, with support and skill acquisition through on-going staff development
  • Providing expert counseling supports as well as making use of crisis as opportunity
